N 1941 HENRY
WAS 14 YEARS OLD, AND I WAS ONLY 8
HERE
IS WM. HENRY CASH, JR WITH HIS
GRANDMOTHER
THEY
CELEBRATED THE SAME BIRTHDAY
ALTHOUGH
BECAUSE
OF THE CHANGE
IN
THE TIME
HE
WAS RECORDED AS
BEING
BORN ON MAY 26TH, 1927
SO
ALL OUR MARRIED LIFE
WE
CELEBRATED TWO DAYS
FOR
HIS BIRTHDAY.
AT
THE AGE OF FOURTEEN
HENRY
CAME TO KNOW CHRIST AS HIS
LORD
AND SAVIOR.
HIS
GRANDMOTHER ENCOURAGED HIM IN HIS
CHRISTIAN
LIFE.
HE
DETERMINED THAT GOD WAS CALLING HIM
TO
PREACH, AND HE BEGAN BY GIVING HIS FAMILY
OF
SIBLINGS HIS FIRST SERMON.
Here
are Margie and Helen with two cousins
Margie
was the same as me. When I was 8 she was 8.
She
heard Henry give his first sermon.
The
remarkable part of this is that Henry stuttered
quite
badly, he thought. How he could become
a
Preacher with that difficulty he never
questioned.
This
was Henry with his Mom and Dad with
siblings
in 1936. Margie was only 3.
I
was in Massachusetts, only 3.
I
believe God planned right
from
the start to put us
together.
COME
JOURNEY WITH ME
AND
DISCOVER HOW
GOD
DID THAT !
MY
SISTER DIANE WAS BORN ON DEC 27TH 1941
AND
I WAS BUSY HELPING MOTHER.
YET
SOMEWHERE IN MY MIND
I
SAW BLOND THIN BABIES HAPPY AND
PLAYING
TOGETHER -
AND
I FELT "DRAWN" TO THE BOY I SAW
IN
MY THOUGHTS.
I
KNOW NOW THAT BECAUSE HIS MOTHER
(ANNA MAUDE CASH) WAS
A FULL BLOODED SWEDE,
ALL OF HENRY'S FAMILY WERE BLONDES AS BABIES, BUT THEIR
HAIR
GREW DARK AS THEY GREW.
HENRY'S
HAIR TURNED BLACK LATER ON,
AND
IT WAS STILL BLACK WHEN THE LORD TOOK HIM HOME.
take
another look at this photo.
Dad
and Mom Cash with 7 little ones, Henry the oldest in 1936.
Dad Cash, (Wm. Henry Cash) was a farmer, born in
Arkansas, and Anna Maude (Sandine) who married him at age 16, had Henry at age
17. Dad moved to Imperial Valley in California when Henry was 2 years
old. By the time they got to New Mexico - his little brother John
was born. And there they stay about a year, and then headed on to
California. They had brought with them, Grandmother and
Grandfather Cash (Garrett Gibson Cash and his wife), because they could not
bear to have this little boy far away from them. So leaving "the
dust bowl" and finding hope in the future in California, they came too.
Calvin Terry his cousin is the same age as what Henry would have
been, and he remembers him as a little boy. They both became Pastors,
preaching God's Word, and yet one was living in Arkansas, and the other in Cal,
Or and later WA
In
1937 my little brother Harry whom we called Skipper was growing up,
and I was
busy with Skip and now with Diane.
About
the time that I was 8 we lived in Boston MA in rentals of the famous
BROWNSTONE TENEMENTS which at one time had many folk very well off living in
them. However, times had changed, and they were now RENTALS and quite
shabby, but still handsome with pine knot staircases and fancy lights.
I
loved to discover W H O was living next to me.
Mother
trusted me to come back if I had any trouble, and
it
seemed as if I lived a CHARMED LIFE.
Funny,
I just did not even imagine harm would come
if
I explored.
So
I was very inquisitive.
People
were kind.
Very
friendly.
God
was giving a picture to me of people of all walks of life, many
unhappy, and some happy, many who did not work, and others who could not work. Life was not easy, but everyone had hope. They did what they could. I could see that I needed A PURPOSE IN IT ALL.
I
saw the hardships.
I
knew life was not easy.
I
wondered "Who God Was, and Was He Really Interested in me?"
On
my next post I will speak a little on that subject.
When
I was in First Grade in 1940, I remember there
was
a picture of children in Germany posted on the wall
at
school. I looked at the picture, and said "something's wrong.
They
do not look happy. There is a sadness in their face."
What
I did not know was that these children were marked for death camps.
No one was talking about that at all.
I
somehow knew God had put me where I was
so
that I could be safe. And I kept seeing
pictures
in my mind of a little boy who
could
not say "sister" trying to preach to
his
brothers and sisters.
BLESS
THE LORD O MY SOUL
AND
ALL THAT IS WITHIN ME
BLESS
HIS HOLY NAME.
